Integration of Location Quotient, Supply Chain Analysis, and Business Model Canvas in Corn Development on Transmigration Area

This study aims to analyze commodity advantages, supply chain structure, business actors, and the agribusiness business model of maize in the Tobadak Transmigration Area, Central Mamuju Regency. The research employed quantitative and qualitative approaches using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using Location Quotient (LQ) to identify leading commodities, supply chain analysis to examine the flow of products, information, and finances, and the Business Model Canvas (BMC) approach to evaluate the agribusiness business model. The results indicate that maize is a leading commodity with an average LQ value greater than 1 during the 2020–2024 period, indicating its role as a base sector in the region. However, fluctuations in LQ values suggest that the comparative advantage of maize remains influenced by productivity, access to production inputs, and market demand dynamics. The maize supply chain is still characterized by long distribution channels involving several intermediaries, resulting in a low farmer’s share, high marketing margins, and weak bargaining power of farmers. In addition, the existing maize agribusiness model remains conventional and has not optimally utilized strategic BMC elements, particularly in terms of value proposition, channels, customer relationships, and key partners. This study proposes a cooperative-based business model as an integrated mechanism for distribution, collective marketing, and market information systems to improve supply chain efficiency and the competitiveness of maize agribusiness. Scientifically, this study contributes to the development of an integrative approach linking regional comparative advantage, supply chain systems, and business model analysis within area-based agribusiness development. Practically, the findings may serve as a basis for strengthening farmer institutions, promoting market information digitalization, and formulating more market-oriented and sustainable maize agribusiness policies.
